Smocked Bubble Dress

You know you're a craftaholic when your solution to not having clean clothes for your daughter to wear to church is making an outfit rather than doing the laundry.  Seriously.  I'm pathetic.  (You can read "you know you're a craftaholic when.." quotes written by others here.)

But I love how this dress turned out, so it was worth it.

And the entire ensemble took a little over an hour...my kind of project.

Front and back pieces are smocked.  Sleeves are gathered at top and bottom.

My cousin made the headband.  I love the simple white lace and pink flower.  You can find more from her shop here.

I made the leggings using Rae's tutorial.  I traced a pair of her leggings and left off the feet.  Used the bottom hem of an old t-shirt instead.

I added lace to the bottom where I created the "bubble."

If someone has tips on how to get good pictures of a 9 month old let me know.  If I can catch a normal face or normal arms it's a miracle.  So wiggly.

I didn't create a tutorial for this dress, but if there is enough interest I will.  Just let me know.

  6. What a gorgeous outfit! You did a fantastic job!
I found you through Wandering Wednesday and am now following you.

As for how to take good pictures of little kids, sorry, I'm no help - I have terrible memories of trying to get passport photos taken of my kids when they were little! Now that was a tough ask!

Anyway, hope you'll stop by my blog sometime too!

  9. Super Cute Dress! It looks like a basic Peasant dress but instead of doing the gathers with Elastic in a casing, you sewed multiple lines of elastic? Looks like a modern twist on a fav!

  14. Your smocking looks awesome! I love the idea of using the tights tutorial for leggings. I have a million blurry pictures of my daughter! ha ha. What works best for us is taking pictures when she's in a good mood (which is sometimes when she's just woken up), being in a place with good lighting so your camera can take a faster picture (ie get enough light exposure), having help (so you or dad or a friend can distract her/play with her while someone else takes the picture), taking a lot of pictures in a row (there's bound to be a good one, huh?), and saving up for a fancier camera with faster shutter speeds (like me!).
